LUBBOCK – Severe droughts in Texas have been blamed after US cotton production plummeted by nearly three million bales due to a ‘historically high’ abandonment of cotton on millions of acres of land in the southwest of the country.

With India’s cotton sector currently battling extreme weather, yields in Brazil impacted by a prolonged drought, and fears that China’s cotton crop will be impacted by its own heatwave, there are concerns in the textile industry that global cotton availability – and its prices – will become increasingly unpredictable due to changing global weather patterns linked to climate change.
