Sunny Active: Mum’s kids activewear brand goes off after Kardashian wears it | Kidspot

An Aussie mum tired of seeing the same ‘sparkly’ gym clothes for girls has made he own activewear, and even True Kardashian is a fan.

When Ally Mahoney saw an Instagram post of Khloe Kardashian’s daughter wearing her activewear set she crossed he fingers it would lead to an explosion of sales.

The famous US reality TV star has 268 million followers, and that kind of exposure could have blown up the Sydney mum’s small business.

But on a closer inspection, Khloe didn’t tag Ally’s business name in the post showing True in the brand’s Sunrise crop top and shorts set.

“My first instinct was - 'wow, this is going to be amazing'!  You hear of so many businesses blowing up after a Kardashian posts their product,” she told Kidspot.

“But because Sunny Active wasn't tagged, none of Khloe's followers would have known which brand True was wearing.”

While Khloe didn't mention Sunny Active, a bunch of Ally's customers flooded the comment section to tell people where to get the set.

"The Khloe post has seen a lot of styles almost sell out - in particular the set that True wore… there’s only a few of them left," Ally said.

Sunny Active was launched in 2020, with Ally's goal being to dress her daughters,  aged 8 and 11, for gymnastics and dance in something comfortable, lightweight, and not necessarily pink or purple.

The clothes are made from recycled water bottles, manufactured into a soft yarn in China.

“They were looking for clothing to wear to sport, but we couldn't find anything other than black or shiny hot pink and purple," she said.

“We were tired of the rainbows and the unicorns, and on the other spectrum, we were tired of the browns and beiges that have been trending, so I decided to create my own."

“I wanted to use colours and prints that were still fashion-friendly, yet age appropriate - florals and ginghams paired with fun bespoke prints."

The Sydney mum believes many kids are starting to look at activewear as an everyday clothing option, much like their mums.

“There are so many amazing activewear brands for women - but there were, and still are, very few options for kids,” she said.

“Now my girls wear Sunny Active every day - they wear shorts under their uniforms so they feel comfortable doing handstands and cartwheels and my 11 year old wears the crop tops under everything."

While she doesn’t have the budget to take on influencer campaigns, she is still thankful the random parcel - which she sent after being motivated by her husband - reached the Kardashians.

“I actually sent the parcel to Kris - I sent a few items for each of her granddaughters along with some Aussie treats and a personalised note,” Ally said.

“I had no idea if it would get through to anyone, so I'm really glad that it did.”
